Boston, MA, Nov 21, 2006 – The Adams Center of Boston and Peabody, MA today announced they will begin offering breast augmentation patients the option to use silicone filled breast implants.
On Nov. 17, 2006 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Allergan’s INAMED(R) Silicone-Filled Breast Implants for use in breast augmentation, reconstruction and revision surgery for women who are 22 years old or older. The approval is a significant development for women in the United States who now have the same options that women in more than 60 countries have had for the last 25 years.
“I have been a part of the Silicone Gel implant clinical studies for the past eight years, and have seen first-hand that silicone gel-filled breast implants are a safe option for women seeking breast implant surgery,” said Dr. William Adams, M.D., F.A.C.S.
These are not the same silicone breast implants of 15 years ago. Today’s silicone implants have several refinements, including a more cohesive silicone gel, a thicker shell, and an additional barrier layer designed to withstand more than 25 times the force of a normal mammogram. In the Core Clinical Study, less than one percent of implants had a reported rupture at four years.
Silicone gel-filled breast implants have been extensively studied over the past ten years. Studies include epidemiological studies, and thousands of reports supporting their safe use. INAMED(R) Silicone Breast Implants are supported by Allergan’s extensive pre-clinical testing in approximately 1,000,000 women worldwide and nearly a decade of U.S. clinical testing involving more than 80,000 women.
“Silicone-gel breast implants offer our patients at The Adams Center a great option in breast augmentation. Silicone implants provide a more realistic look, and a more natural feel, and will be a terrific option for women.”
