Did you know that it is best to strengthen your skin before you head out for a day in the sun? It is possible to have healthy sun exposure if you take the proper steps to ensure your skin is strong and properly protected when you head out for a day at the beach or a round of golf.
#1: Eat your antioxidants! Dr. Zein Obagi recommends eating as many colors as possible in a meal. Colors meaning different kinds of fruits and vegetables. Make your self a salad and try to include every color of the rainbow. Although you should not depend on supplements as your primary means of ingesting antioxidants, it is a good idea to take them in addition to including lots of antioxidants in your diet.
#2. Use topical anti-oxidant products. One of our favorite products at The Adams Center is our Green Tea Antioxidant Serum by DSP (Doctor’s Skin Prescription). This serum is applied topically and protects your skin from free radical damage.
#3. Wear sunblock but do not let it give you a false sense of safety.
It is important to reapply your sunblock every couple of hours. If you are exercising outdoors and sweating, it is important to reapply perhaps even more frequently if possible. Opt for a waterproof sunblock with a high SPF. Ask our office about some of our great tinted sunscreens from DSP that offer protection without making you appear pasty and white.
