Why Do You Recommend I Stop Smoking Before My Surgery?

If you are a patient of mine, it is likely that you know my stance on smoking.  However, there is a reason beyond your cardiovascular health that I ask patients to stop smoking before undergoing surgery.  If you smoke, it inhibits blood flow to the skin, and can interfere with healing.  Scars also tend to be much more noticeable in people who smoke.

The dangers of smoking, especially prior to your surgery, are very real.  If you are considering quitting, the website provides many resources.
