Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is used to
create gradual, natural improvements in skin
conditions.
IPL can be used to treat issues including:
Fine lines and wrinkles
Age spots and sun damage
Acne scarring
Symptoms of Rosacea
Birthmarks
IPL works by delivering light to the skin surface in
precise pain-free pulses. It can be used to treat areas
including: face, neck, chest, and hands.
On average, 4 - 6 treatments scheduled at 3 week
intervals are recommended. Sessions usually last 20
minutes.

Micropigmentation is the application
of "permanent make-up." It's most commonly used to
enhance eyebrows, eyelashes, lip line, the areola, or to
correct scarring and uneven pigmentation.
In a process similar to tattooing, granules of FDA
approved pigment are implanted below the skin's
surface for cosmetic and/or corrective enhancement.
Two 30-40 minute treatments are usually needed, and
are spaced one or more weeks apart.
Micropigmentation is a good alternative for women
with make-up allergies. It's not, however, meant to
replace make-up altogether.

In July, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) approved BotoxÆ for the treatment of severe
underarm sweating, a condition called primary
axillary hyperhidrosis.
The condition is characterized by excessive
sweating of the forehead, underarms, palms, or soles of
the feet. It affects approx. 1% of the population,
and tends to run in families.
BotoxÆ, which in this case works by inhibiting
sweat gland stimulation, has proven to be effective
even in cases where topical treatments have failed.
Tests showed few complications with high patient
satisfaction rates.

| Build A Stronger Core |
 |
The muscles of your back and abdominal region
take a lot of abuse throughout the day. Walking,
bending, lifting, and even sitting can put strain on your
core.
A lack of good core strength, can lead to lower
back pain, injury, and poor posture just to name a few.
If you play sports, your core muscles are critical to
good performance.
People tend to look at the muscles of the back and
abdomen as separate areas. In reality, the two
groups are interconnected. You must train both
areas, or you can throw off your body's alignment.
The back is prone to injury, so be sure not to over
train. Limit the number of training sessions to about 3
per week (30 minutes each) with a day of rest in
between. Beginners, start by alternating 2 back training
sessions per week with 2 days rest.

Perform 3 sets of all exercises, alternating full sets
of back exercises with full sets of abdominal
exercises.
Beginners should consult with their physician prior
to starting any exercise program. If you've never lifted
weights, you may want to consult with a personal
trainer
for one on one instruction and to develop a
personalized exercise program.

In my 25 years in practice, I've received thousands
of questions from patients. While many of these are
patient specific, some of the more common are:
Q: Acne Scarring - I have acne scars on
my face. Some are deep while some are not. Is there
an effective, uniform way to get rid of these? A: Acne scars are fairly common. We offer
a number of procedures that have had great results.
These include laser
resurfacing, IPL, and dermabrasion. No one
treatment is effective in all cases, so I definitely need
to evaluate patients prior to recommending a
treatment.
Q: Where Do You Perform Surgery - Do
you perform surgery in a hospital, or is it done at your
own surgical center?
A: The Adams-Seckel Center has it's own surgical
facility at our Peabody location. However, I also have
operating privileges at Union Hospital and other Boston
area medical centers.
