  • Body Contouring After Major Weight Loss
    .

Body contouring is a big step in transforming your body after a major weight loss.

The growing popularity of gastric bypass surgery has led to a rise in the need for special techniques in body contouring surgery to remove excess skin created by massive weight loss.

If you have lost a great deal of weight and would like more in-depth information on this procedure, please call my office at 617-262-2208 to arrange a personal consultation.

    Preventing Dry Winter Skin
    .

Each year, the winter chill and lack of moisture in the air brings dry, itchy skin.

While you can't change the weather, you can do a number of things to help with dry skin:

  • Seal and moisturize your skin
  • Add moisture to the air in your home
  • Use an ounce of prevention
  • Seal Your Skin
Even if the environment in your home is perfect, your skin can still be dry. The solution is simple - rub on some lotion.

  • Look for lotions that are "hypoallergenic".
  • Start with the heaviest lotion you're comfortable using.
  • Prone to acne? Use lotions labeled "non- comedogenic".
  • Get a Good Humidifier
Without good humidity indoors, dry air sucks moisture from your skin, causing it to feel tight, crack, flake, and itch. Investing in a stand-alone humidifier can spare your skin.

    Prevent Dryness
Preventing dry skin is as important as treating it:

  • Drink plenty of non-caffeinated fluids.
  • Instead of licking your lips, use lip balm.
  • Avoid facial cleansing pads and rinses containing alcohol.
  • Shave with lotion instead of regular shaving cream.
  • The Adams-Seckel Center offers a special line of high quality moisturizers to help keep your skin feeling good.

Certified personal trainers often get questions from clients, family, and friends on how to lose 20 pounds in a month. Oh, and by the way, they can only spare an hour a week.

Despite what you may read, safe 30 minute cure-all workouts that allow you to lose 20 pounds in a month don't exist.

Fitness and weight loss take time, but both are attainable:

  • Set realistic goals for fitness and weight loss. 1 - 2.5 pounds per week is a safe weight loss range.
  • The most effective fitness programs combine diet, cardio, and weight/resistance training.
  • Muscle increases metabolism and burns calories more efficiently.
  • Stretch! Stretching after a five minute warm up helps to prevent injury, improves blood flow throughout the body, and aids in healing muscle tissue.
  • Doing your cardio workout before breakfast is best.
  • No one machine or exercise is "the best". You'll get optimum results when you enjoy the exercise you're doing.
  • Train properly for your current fitness level.
  • Everyone's fitness situation and needs are different. If you're a novice, or are recovering from a recent injury or surgery, don't jump into a training program. Take it slow at first. Follow your physician's advice.

The Adams-Seckel Center now offers personal training. Contact the staff trainer at 617-262-2208 for questions and to design a program to fit your specific needs.
