57% of women, and 53% of men approve of cosmetic surgery
. . .
Recently, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
released the 2001 statistics for cosmetic procedures, which
showed:
- Procedures increased 48% from 2000 to 2001
- Women had 88% of all procedures
- Baby boomers between the ages of 35-50 consisted of
the largest group
- Those under the age of 18 had less than 4% of all cosmetic
procedures
Interestingly, more than 46% of all cosmetic procedures
were performed by plastic surgeons who have more than 20
years of experience in safe environments:
- 49% were performed at an office facility
- 27% took place at a hospital
- 24% at a free-standing surgical center
All this means that cosmetic procedures are no longer exclusive
to the rich and famous or to just females. Anyone can now
participate in cosmetic procedures.
The top five surgical procedures were
liposuction/body contouring,
eyelid surgery,
breast augmentation,
nose resculpturing and
facelifts.
The top non- surgical
procedures were
botox injections,
chemical peels,
collagen injections,
microdermabrasion, and
laser hair removal.

It's summer and no doubt your child is out riding their
bicycle, skateboard, scooter or in-line skates.
Accidents with toys or dogs happen simply as your child
is having another day of outdoor fun.
Hospital emergency rooms treat more than 200,000
people for summer injuries, while over 200 children are
killed each year in bicycle-related accidents. These
injuries account for a significant part of the plastic
surgery performed on children and repairs can be very
complex. Most accidents can be avoided if your child
wears the proper safety equipment.
Of the 4.7 million people in the US that are bitten by
dogs most are children. Children not only make up 60%
of dog bite victims; they suffer greater injuries and
more fatalities than adults. Please remember that even
the friendliest dog can bite. For more information on
how to keep your children safe this summer click on the

| Summer Skin Care! |

Summer is a time to take special care of your skin. With
the long hours of sunlight to lounge on the beach, hit
the links and dig in the garden, now is the time to step
up prevention. The incidence and mortality of
skin cancer have increased exponentially during the
past several decades, and every year the figure
mounts. Sun exposure is considered the most
important avoidable cause, yet about 70% of adults do
not protect themselves with sunscreen, shade or
clothing. Not only that, but 80% of sun damage occurs
before the age of 18. Please remember to keep your
skin safe by using suncreen. And, don't forget to
check out our featured Summer products.

Greetings from The Adams-Seckel Center |
 |
|
On April 15, the FDA approved Botox injections for
cosmetic use.
This confirms findings that the drug
is safe and effective for wrinkle reduction.
However, I strongly believe that botox injections
should be performed in an appropriate
setting.
Stay away from "Botox parties." Be sure
that there are medical personnel and the necessary
equipment to safely observe and handle potential
complications. A party atmosphere with the
consumption of alcohol is never a good mix with any
medical procedure and could affect the outcome.
The 2001 statistics for cosmetic procedures
were recently released. Not surprisingly, the figures
increased from 2000, with nearly 8.5 million procedures
performed during 2001.
What are your thoughts about plastic surgery and
where do you fit in?
Your questions, comments and feedback
are always welcome.
The Adams-Seckel Center is committed to providing
honest, straightforward information to help people look
and feel their best by focusing on the overall health
and well being of our patients.

Enjoy a safe and healthy summer!
