Boston, MA – – March 15, 2007 – – Is the next big trend in cosmetic surgery actually not having one? Renown plastic surgeon Dr. Bill Adams of Boston and Peabody’s The Adamsl Center thinks so.
On March 9th, the ASAPS released their 2006 statistics for cosmetic procedures performed in the U.S. 2006 showed some interesting trends in cosmetic procedures. With approximately 11.5 million cosmetic procedures (both surgical and non-surgical) performed in the U.S. – a small increase of 1% from 2005 – more people than ever are choosing to manage the signs of aging, or just look and feel their best.
One of the more interesting points to come out of this report is that while surgical procedures actually showed a decline, more people than ever are realizing the benefits of non-surgical procedures which account for 83% of the total cosmetic procedures performed in the U.S.
Dr. Bill Adams, M.D.F.A.C.S. said, “The ASAPS statistics confirm what we’ve been saying for the past few years. Cosmetic surgery is not everyone, and many people can see great results from a non-surgical treatment with less downtime.”
Over the past year, the ASAPS data tells us that while fewer people are opting for a surgical procedure, many more patients are deciding to try a non-surgical treatment.
“Our experience at The Adams Center mimics this. Some of the new high-tech treatments in particular are providing great results in reversing many of the signs of facial aging, and other areas including cellulite reduction;” says Adams.
Additionally, most recent ASAPS Consumer Attitudes Study showed that the nation’s approval of cosmetic surgery is at an all-time high. According to the February 2007 report of 1,000 Americans aged 18 and above, 62% of respondents are in favor of cosmetic surgery. This marks an 8% increase from last year’s survey, making it the highest reported approval rating since the survey was implemented.
