Teri Begins The Next Phase of Her Non Surgical Facial Rejuvenation Program - March 19, 2012

Teri visits The Adams Center to begin the next phase of her Non Surgical Facial Rejuvenation Program. Dr. Adams discusses her different options for fillers and Teri decides to have Sculptra in her next appointment. Sculptra Aesthetic is a long-lasting poly-L-lactic acid wrinkle filler designed to fill facial wrinkles (including deep wrinkles), and correct facial contour deficiencies.

Sculptra works by replacing the collagen that is naturally lost as we age. While Sculptra Aesthetic produces immediately noticeable results, unlike other fillers, it’s also designed to continue to work gradually and reduce the effects of aging over a longer period of time. The gradual transformation produces more natural results, and also creates a longer lasting effect that may last for an amazing two years.

Products to Reduce Fine Lines and Wrinkles - August 3, 2011

Here at The Adams Center we feel it is important that our patients take an active role in taking care of your skin.  We want you to understand why the aesthetician treatments and procedures we offer are medically proven to have results.  We also want you to understand how and why the products we use during treatment and sell in our offices are at the top of the line when it comes to anti-aging and overall quality.  Every month we will be doing a feature on Products of the Month as well as occasional blog posts on some of our favorite products.  Today I want to take a look at a couple of products that help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

1. Wri-Lax

This is a great product that helps to decrease crow’s feet, forehead lines, lip lines, and neck bands.  If you are already undergoing regular cosmetic injections, Wri-Lax will help enhance their effect.  Wri Lax is an anti-wrinkle serum that contains multiple anti-oxidants – helping to neutralize free radicals.  The serum also includes neuropeptides to reduce areas of inflammation and redness.  Studies have shown Wri-Lax to show up to a 50% reduction in the appearance of fine lines – especially crows feet, forehead lines, frown lines, and lip lines.  The product should be applied after thoroughly cleansing the skin and massaged into lined areas on the face.

2. Roshni

One of our most popular products at the Adams Center, Roshni is excellent for evening out skin tone and removing age spots.  It is also helps prevent fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating collagen production.  The elegant base has a creamy consistency that allows for a pleasant application.  Unfortunately we are unable to sell this product online because it must be backed by doctors Rx.  However, please contact the office if you would like more information or would like to schedule an appointment.

The Jessner Peel - July 13, 2011

J Peel

The Jessner Peel or J Peel

Are you looking for a great way to revitalize your skin this summer but don’t want to endure long office appointments and weeks of peeling and flaking skin?  Then the Jessner Peel or J Peel might be the perfect solution.

The Jessner or J Peel is one of our most popular peels at the Adams Center.  It is a light to medium depth peel that removes the superficial layers of the skin.  The J Peel treats acne, rosacea, pigmentation, and sun damage.  It reduces oil in the skin and unclogs pores as well.  Most patients experience flaking skin for 3-4 days following treatment.  The peel uses a combination of salicylic, lactic, and resorcinol acids.  Following treatment, it is important to always apply SPF 30 or higher sunscreen when heading outdoors.

Contact the office today to schedule a consultation with on of our medical aestheticians to find out if the J Peel is right for you!

DermaSound – A Great Summertime Procedure! - June 30, 2011

Dermasound

It’s summertime and nobody wants to waste time indoors or undergo treatments that force us to stay out of the sun for days at a time.  This is why I’ve decided to write this blog post about DermaSound – a great procedure that will have you in and out of the office in about an hour with glowing, rejuvenated skin.

DermaSound is a scientifically advanced ultrasonic skin treatment that combines sound waves with a water process to effectively eliminate dead skin cells and debris.  DermaSound not only exfoliates, but it can be used to provide deeper-reaching antioxidant treatments by creating pathways into the skin for antioxidants to nourish and heal skin at a cellular level.  This is great procedure that doesn’t damage the skin or use harsh chemicals.  The low frequency sound waves are able to penetrate deeper than Microdermabrasion.

DermaSound uses three different settings to achieve results.  The first setting is a power wash that thoroughly cleanses the skin.  The second setting sono’s in products, getting them deeper into the skin so it can reap all of the benefits. The third setting stimulates circulation in the skin and helps enhance the skin’s natural healing process.

DermaSound can be scheduled as a treatment on it’s own or combined with the Adams Center Customized Base Facial.  When combined with the facial, DermaSound is primarily used on the second setting to help sono in products used by your medical aesthetician.

Please contact us today if you would like more information about this and other procedures.  Our medical aestheticians would be glad to meet with you for a complimentary consultation.

Improve Your Lung Capacity - June 29, 2011

Lung Capacity

Did you know that our lung capacity decreases as we age?

After age 20 lung capacity decreases by about .5% – 1% of capacity per year primarily due to a decrease in the elasticity of the lung tissue. The old adage use it or lose it is especially true when it comes to our lungs.

Normal adult lung capacity is 3 to 5 liters (3,000 – 5,000 milliliters), and can be calculated as milliliters of air per kilogram (approx. 2.2 lbs.) of body weight. The equation for women is 50 to 60 milliliters of air for each kilogram of body weight (55 ml x kg), and for men the equation is 70 milliliters per kilogram of body weight (70 ml x kg).

This is all somewhat grim news. The good news is that physical fitness increases lung capacity. This makes adding a minimuim of 30 minutes a day of enjoyable aerobic exercise (running, swimming, rowing, cycling, or even a brisk walk) a critical component to any exercise regimen. Aerobic exercise will not only help to increase your lung capacity, but it will also burn fat, increase your metabolism, help decrease blood pressure, slow bone and muscle loss, and aid in your overall health and wellness.

Spider Vein Treatment - June 9, 2011

Spider Vein Treatment

There are a couple of options for treating unsightly spider veins

As the temperatures warm and you find yourself shedding layers, spider veins are an annoyance you don’t want to worry about as you head to the beach. These reddish purple veins are commonly found on the thighs, calves, and ankles.  Spider Veins should not be confused with varicose veins.  Varicose veins are much larger in size and push the surface of the skin upwards.  Treatment for varicose veins often requires surgery whereas spider veins can be removed non-surgically.

Sclerotherapy is one popular treatment option which involves injecting a solution into several points along the vein.  The lining of the veins react to the solution and begins breaking down the veins walls.  Supportive stockings must be worn post treatment for compression, which assists in breaking down the vein walls.  The veins gradually disappear as the veins are absorbed back into the body resulting in a more even, youthful appearance.

This is a non-surgical procedure that can be done in office.  However, please keep in mind you must wear supportive stockings post treatment for about two weeks and the treated areas should be protected from the sun during this period as well.  Some bruising and brown pigmentation may also occur in the treated areas during this recovery period.  Sometimes more than one treatment is necessary for complete spider vein removal.

Cosmetic Procedures for Father’s Day from the Adams Center - June 7, 2011

Cosmetic Procedures for Father's Day

Father's Day is Just Around the Corner - are you ready?

With more and more men taking an interest in their appearance and cosmetic surgery, why not do something for the man in your life to get him looking his best? Some of the most popular procedures men opt for are non invasive and can be performed with little to no down time. Here are a few suggestions – including some summer specials – that were sure any man won’t turn down.

Botox

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Botulinum Toxin Type A [Botox] was the most popular minimally invasive cosmetic procedure for men in 2010. Botox® works by reducing the activity of the muscles that cause frown lines. The Botox procedure typically takes 15 minutes or less, and benefits typically last 4-8 months.

We’ve got a great deal going on for the month of June called the Botox Referral Program. If you bring Dad or your Man in for their FIRST time injection of Botox – each of you will receive $100 off your injection.

Laser Hair Removal

The second most popular minimally invasive procedure for men in 2010, Laser Hair Removal came in at a close second.  Men typically opt for laser hair removal on the back and shoulders. These areas are difficult to reach and shaving on a regular basis is tedious and time consuming.

During the month of June, we are running a Laser Hair Removal Special in recognition of Father’s Day!   When you book  laser hair removal appointments with us during the month of June, we will give you and your spouse 20% off a series of three treatments. Laser Hair Removal is a great investment which will save you time and money in the long run.

Microdermabrasion

This is a great fast procedure for the busy man who thinks he has no time for vanity.  A fast procedure that can easily be done on a lunch break, microdermabrasion helps improve the fine lines and wrinkles that creep in around our eyes, mouth and forehead as we age.  Using a gentle micro-crystal abrasive, we exfoliate the top layer of dead skin cells, leaving the skin with a more vibrant, healthy, rejuvenated appearance.

Consultation for Surgical Procedures

Every patient and every cosmetic surgery is different.  One of the most important factors for the success of  any procedure is taking the time to review your goals and set realistic expectations.  Setting up a consultation with Dr. Adams for surgery is a great way to look at your cosmetic goals and set up the correct plan for you personally.  Cosmetic surgery can be a life changing decision. If you have made the decision to get cosmetic surgery, we offer several financing options.  Some popular procedures for males include Liposuction, Rhinoplasty, Breast Reduction, and Hair Transplantation.

IPL – Intense Pulsed Light Photofacials - June 3, 2011

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Treatments are a minimally invasive procedure that can help restore the skin’s youthful appearance. IPL works through a process called photorejuvination – in which light is delivered to the skin surface in precise pulses. It can treat many skin conditions including:

- Fine Lines and Wrinkles
- Age Spots
- Sun Damage
- Acne Scarring
- Symptoms of Rosacea
- Birthmarks
- Unsightly Veins
- Unwanted Hair

IPL is typically used on the face, neck, chest, and hands although it can also be used elsewhere. It is very good at treating photaged or sun damaged skin. I have many patients come into my office looking to treat age spots, sun-induced freckles, brown pigment spots, and broken capillaries. IPL is a great choice for patients who lead an active lifestyle and do not have time for a lengthly recovery period. On average, 4 – 6 treatments are recommended, scheduled at three-week intervals with each session lasting about 30 minutes.

IPL works by transmitting broad spectrum light through a small transparent hand piece placed over the skin. The light penetrates the skin tissue and is absorbed by either the blood (when treating vascular lesions) or the melanin (when treating pigmented lesions). The injured tissues are then removed through the body’s natural processes resulting in a more even skin tone and youthful appearance.

We recently acquired the new Lumenis 1640 IPL laser in our Peabody office.  This is the cutting edge technology when it comes to IPL and it can even be used to remove stretch marks.  This summer we are offering a special Full Face  IPL Treatment for only $299 during June, July, and August.  This a great price if you are looking to try IPL for the first time or if you are continuing a series of treatments.  Contact us today to schedule your appointment!
