Know What To Expect The First Time You Have Botox – Watch These Informational Videos! - February 21, 2012
In this series of videos Adams Center Ambassador Teri has Botox injections as part of her Non Surgical Facial Rejuvenation Program. Thus far Teri has had a Vi Peel (chemical peel) and has been using medical grade Adams Center skin care products.
Teri has had Botox in the past and she said that this treatment went “as expected”. Following the procedure, she commented that the injections were not painful given the small size of the needle. Teri commented afterwards that her anticipation and fear of needles were the only negative aspects of the treatment. She was able to go about the rest of her day as usual and had minimal bruising from the Botox injections. The two small bruises she did have were easily covered up with make-up and disappeared within a couple of days.
About a week following treatment I asked Teri if she was satisfied with the results of her Botox treatment and this is what she had to say:
“By day 2 I really noticed a significant difference primarily on my forehead. I am eager to see how long the treatment is effective. I would definitely continue the use of botox given the results I have seen thus far!”

RevitaLash Eyelash Conditioner - June 1, 2011
RevitaLash is a cosmetic eyelash conditioner used to help eyelashes regain health, strength, and beauty. RevitaLash was developed by Dr. Michael Brinkenhoff, M.D. in an effort to help his wife Gayle after intensive chemotherapy treatments damaged her once beautiful, long eyelashes. The product should be applied once per day to the base of the eyelashes. I recommend using RevitaLash when you will not be applying eye makeup. Some people see results after as little as three weeks, while other patients take up to ten weeks to see measurable results. This product can be used on both men and women’s eyelashes.
Here is a video from NBC about the product Revitalash, available at both Adams Center offices.

More Men Opting for Plastic Surgery - May 13, 2011
In the past decade, I have noticed a large increase in the number of male patients at my practice. In general, men are beginning to pay more attention to their appearance. According to Men’s Health, the male grooming market is now worth 3.5 billion and rising. Many men who come into my office remark that they don’t look as good as they feel. It’s good to see that attitudes are shifting away from the idea that cosmetic surgery is strictly for women. And not just surgery – skin care too. With the available surgeries and procedures, it’s possible to look fresh and energetic well into your 40′s, 50′s, and even 60′s.
According the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, here are the top 5 cosmetic surgeries for men in 2010:
1. Nose Reshaping [Rhinoplasty]
2. Hair Transplantation
3. Eyelid Surgery [Blepharoplasty]
4. Liposuction
5. Breast Reductions
2010 Top Five Male Cosmetic Minimally-Invasive Procedures
1. Botulinum Toxin Type A [Botox]
2. Laser Hair Removal
3. Microdermabrasion
4. Chemical Peel
5. Soft Tissue Fillers

ASAPS Boston Meeting 20011 Begins Today! - May 6, 2011
Today marks the start of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery’s 44th annual meeting held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. This year’s theme is Affirming the Science of Aesthetic Surgery with an emphasis on Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM).
Evidence-Based Medicine is a tool that systematically ranks the scientific validity of a study based on 5 levels of evidence and qualifying studies. The purpose of EBM is to improve patient safety, distinguish aesthetic surgery education, and separate all ties to “junk” medicine or science.
The ASAPS annual meeting is one of the foremost events in the field of cosmetic surgery and I am very excited to be attending. I love attending these conferences because it allows me to stay on top the the latest trends and studies. Throughout the week, I will be attending a series of workshops, forums, and exhibits. I am eager to reconnect with old colleagues, meet new people, and soak up lots to share with you all.
For a Limited Time – Rebates on Restylane & Dysport - May 5, 2011
I want to let my readers know that for a limited time, Restylane and Dysport are offering special summer rebates.
Dysport is a prescription injectable used for the temporary improvement in the look of frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). It is recommended for adults under age 65. Dysport works by blocking the signal from the nerve to the muscles. This limits muscle activity in the region and temporarily prevents contraction of the muscles that cause frown lines. From May 1st until June 30th, Dysport is offering a $50 rebate.

Restylane is a family of injectable gels that works by restoring fullness and volume to the skin. It is most commonly used to temporarily correct nasolabial folds or laugh lines, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth. It can also be used to correct lipstick lines and marionette lines. You’ll see results immediately following your treatment. For a limited time, you can save up to $390 on Restylane.

PLASTIC SURGERY: Frequently Asked Questions - April 22, 2011
1) When can I take a shower?
You can take a shower within 24 hours of most surgeries. After liposuction procedures, you can shower after 48-72 hours. Our rhinoplasty patients can bathe but they need to keep their face dry for a week.
2) Will I have bandages?
For most procedures, bandages will be removed after 24 hours.
Our face lift patients do not have bandages.
3) Can I get the stitches wet?
It is ok to get the stitches wet for most surgeries after 24 hours. It is important however that you follow your post-operative instructions on how to clean the suture line following bathing.
4) When can I have a glass of wine?
You will need to refrain from alcohol consumption until you are off your pain medications, after that time, it is ok to have a glass of wine.
5) When can I exercise?
This really depends upon what surgery you are having. Usually, you will be able to exercise between 1 and 6 weeks following surgery. Walking is always ok following your procedure. For most surgeries, you can return to your pre-surgical exercise regimen after three weeks. If you have had a tummy tuck, however, you will need to wait 6 weeks.
6) When can I wear makeup?
After facial surgery, makeup can be worn 7 to 10 days following your procedure.
7) How long will I be bruised?
If you do have bruising, that usually resolves within 1 to 2 weeks.
8. When can I go swimming?
This again, depends upon what surgery you are having. For the most part, you can swim after 3 weeks. If you have had a tummy tuck, you will need to wait 6 weeks.
9) When can I have relations after surgery?
If you are not having any discomfort from your surgery you can resume sexual relations. For the most part, this will be after three weeks except if you have had a tummy tuck, in which case it will be after 6 weeks.
10) How long do I wait after my consultation to schedule my surgery?
Once you make the decision that you would like to schedule your surgery, you can do so right away. All you need to do is decide when you would like to have the procedure done and our office will work with you to get your surgery scheduled as close to your chosen date as possible.
11) How much pain will I have after my surgery?
Most patients seem to experience less pain than they expect from their surgeries. We give our patients pain medication that will help to keep them comfortable during their post-operative course.
12) How long will my face lift last?
Environmental factors such as smoking and sun damage play a roll in reducing the longevity of a face lift. In addition, genetic factors play a roll as well. If you are a person who looks good for your stated age, then you will tend to look good for a longer period of time after a face lift.
If you take a pair of identical twins, one has a face lift and the other does not. After ten years, the twin that had the procedure will continue to look better than her sister who did not have the procedure.
13) Will the fat come back after liposuction?
Once fat is removed from an area, it does not come back. Liposuction is not a weight reduction tool; rather, it is used as a contouring tool. If, after your liposuction, you remain at your same weight, your liposuction will be permanent. If, however, you gain weight- all bets are off.
14) What is Juvederm and how long will a Juvederm injection last?
Juvederm is similar to other hyaluronic acid products such as Restyline. Hyaluronic acid is a component of normal skin. It is an injectible filler that is used to fill in wrinkles and hollows. It lasts on the average of 6 months to a year.
14) What is Botox and how long does it last?
Botox is used to relax those muscles that cause frown lines. An example would be the “coma” marks between the eyes that make a person look like they’re scowling. An injection of botox can be effective for 3 to 5 months. It appears that if you routinely get your botox injections, they seem to last longer.
The Facts on Sculptra Aesthetic Facial Injectables - April 10, 2011
Sculptra is a relatively new non-surgical procedure that brands itself as “anti-age for the modern age”. It is different from many injectables because it does not show immediate results. Instead, Sculptra replaces and stimulates the production of collagen deep within the dermis to provide a more natural effect. By doing so, it helps bring volume back into the face, similar to a balloon filling with air. It is hard to tell a patient has undergone any treatment with Sculptra and results will continue to appear up to three months after treatment. Sculptra is most effectively used for marionette lines, smile lines, and chin wrinkles. It is typically used in the cheeks, chin, and temple area.
There are many different factors that contribute to facial aging but the loss of collagen and decreased production of the protein account for a lot of the damage. Collagen helps give our skin structure and helps to retain elastin in the skin, a protein that helps the skin maintain shape. This damage deep within the dermis causes wrinkles as the skin loses it’s ability to maintain elasticity and hold moisture.
Sculptra is appropriate for patients of all ages who may not be quite ready for a facelift. In many cases, we recommend a combination of treatments to help you achieve the best results.
