Tear Trough Implants

A tear trough implant is a great solution for eliminating dark circles or hollowness that may appear under your eyes by augmenting the bone under the eyelid and creating a more youthful appearance.

The Adams Center has pioneered a new procedure that places this small a soft silicone implant through a tiny laser incision on the inside of the eyelid. This procedure, called a “transconjunctival approach”, is a significant improvement in the technique for placing tear trough implants.

Since there is no incision on the outside of the eyelid, there is no visible scarring, healing is much quicker, and there is no change to the shape of the eyelid and no sad-eyed look.

Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty

Looking for the most effective way to eliminate the bags under your eyes and/or dark circles? We have the answer!

At The Adams Center, we utilize a newer blepharoplasty technique called transconjunctival laser blepharoplasty.

Standard scalpel blepharoplasty can cause the support for the eyelid to be lost when the surgeon cuts through the muscle which supports the lower eyelid. The scarring produced by the surgery may pull the eyelid down. If the patient has a lax lower eyelid to begin with, the situation is made much worse.

Transconjunctival blepharoplasty avoids injury to the supporting eyelid muscle by making a small incision with a laser through the conjunctiva (the pink part of the eyelid on the inside). The fat is then removed or repositioned from the inside and the lid is tightened.

Benefits of the transconjunctival laser blepharoplasty include:

  • No visible scar on the outside of the lower eyelid
  • Eyelid shape is not changed
  • Healing and recovery times are usually faster
  • Bruising is typically less severe
  • Sad eyed look or hound dog eyes is avoided

An Arcus Marginalis Release or Tear Trough Implant may be performed to correct dark circles with the transconjunctival blepharoplasty, or as a part of our Total Eyelid Rejuvenation program.

Total Eyelid Rejuvenation

We’ve created one of the most effective total eyelid rejuvenation program in the country!

Our comprehensive 3 step approach blends laser blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), Arcus Marginalis Release or Tear Trough Implants, and the LaserLyte® Peel to totally revitalize the areas around your eyes.

  1. Eyelid Surgery: We are one of the few surgical centers in greater Boston using laser blepharoplasty. The laser offers several advantages over a traditional scalpel technique:
    • Less bleeding
    • Speedier recovery
    • Typically less bruising

We use the unique surgical approach of making the incision on the inside of the eyelid (as opposed to the standard outside of the eyelid). This helps preserve the natural shape of the lower eyelid and avoid the sad-eyed look after surgery.

  1. Arcus Marginalis Release: While eyelid surgery is a great procedure for correcting baggy, puffy eyelids and loose skin, it does little to improve the dark circles under our eyes. We add a procedure called Arcus Marginalis Release, which releases a ligament that can worsen the appearance of those dark circles.

Depending on your specific circumstances, we may suggest the use of a tear trough implant. A tear trough implant is a small implant made of solid silicone that fills in any hollowness beneath the eyelid. The tear trough implant is used to augment the bone under the eyelid which diminishes with aging.

  1. LaserLyte Peel: Eyelid surgery does little to improve the actual look of the skin itself, which may still look old following surgery. We’ve added a superficial LaserLyte peel of the eyelid skin to remove wrinkles, eliminate brown spots, and tighten the skin.

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Why Consider a Blepharoplasty?

The blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) procedure is great for correcting the excess skin of the upper eyelid and puffiness either above (upper blepharoplasty), or below the eyes (lower blepharoplasty).

A Blepharoplasty creates a more pleasing look to the eye area by removing and/or repositioning excess skin and fat.

Blepharoplasty Method:

Excess fat and skin are removed and/or repositioned and the muscles are reshaped.

While we may still use a traditional blepharoplasty procedure on some patients, we typically use a laser blepharoplasty procedure to make an incision on the inside of the eyelid. This method is called transconjunctival blepharoplasty.

Additionally, we may perform an Arcus Marginalis Release to correct dark circles under the eyes, or in some cases a Total Eyelid Rejuvenation.

The Blepharoplasty procedure may be performed under either local or general anesthesia.

Recovery from a Blepharoplasty:

You will be able to return home the same day following your Blepharoplasty.

Face Lift (Rhytidectomy)

Why Consider a Face Lift?
The Face Lift procedure (also known as a Rhytidectomy) is used to smooth the face and neck to restore more pleasing contours to the area. While a Face Lift used to be the only option for patients to reduce advanced signs of aging, several advanced laser, or other non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures now also exist. We will cover these in options in your consultation.
Face Lift Method:
In a Face Lift, facial skin is lifted, the deeper structures repositioned and the skin re-draped over the new contour through incisions under chin, around the ear, and hairline. Excess skin is then removed to complete the process. A Face Lift procedure may be performed under either local or general anesthesia. Patients often combine procedures such as a neck lifteyelid rejuvenationLaser Lyte Peel (Active FX), and/or Deep FX to achieve complete facial rejuvenation.
